ADDED INFO ~ What might be called the “Doh Toe” because of Keen’s signature buttressed toe protection, the Ridgeline is also protective throughout its underbelly, thanks to a soft flex plastic that serves as a stone-bruise plate. The shoe also features a heel support structure engineered to support the foot on impact, dissipating shock. Unfortunately, despite the forefoot flex grooves, the Ridgeline was far from suave when it came to heel-to-toe transitions and trail feel. Testers liked the shoe’s asymmetrical flex lace system but didn’t recommend the Ridgeline for technical trails or, on the other end of the spectrum, for running on paved surfaces, where they were block-like.
