Confederate Civil War Midshipman's Naval Dirk

Description

A midshipman was required to carry a naval dirk, and this was made for that purpose with a double edged blade of 7 5/8" with a tinned blade common for items ship bound used. The overall length is about 11 13/16" long with simple maple turned handle with an aged finish that is flaking. The oval brass guard shows strong age patina not recent added finish. A salty original dirk of the Civil War era.
